Types of Security Alarms Security alarms are manufactured in several models to suit various applications like boundary monitors, driveway alarms, door alarms, window alarms, CCTV systems, external security alarms, pet friendly alarms, GSM alarms, etc. According to available data, properties fitted with security alarms are not as susceptible to thefts as those are that do not have any burglar alarms. We present here brief details on each type of alarm for your knowledge and understanding.
Boundary Monitors
Boundary monitors are of two types. One is directly connected to a closed circuit television systems or CCTV system. Monitor cameras installed at regular intervals along the boundary walls detect intruders and display them in the TV monitors inside the property. The other type is designed to raise an alarm or give a powerful shock when an intruder touches any part of the boundary wall. Normally, these types of alarms are placed at a height on fences constructed at the top of the boundary walls. This is done to avoid unwanted warning when stray animals come in touch with the boundary walls.
Driveway Alarms
Driveway alarms also come in two models. The first model detects and displays the arrival of visitors at the gate or the driveway. The gates can be opened after the visitors are recognised or properly identified as genuine. The other model will be able to provide recorded messages to visitors and record their messages. This type is used when the residents are away from the house. These versatile driveway alarms can be installed on gates, driveways, garages, sheds, stables, outbuildings and other areas outside the house. Most of the latest models use wireless sensors with a general working range of 50 meters. Several sensors can be connected to a single receiver.
Door & Window Alarms
Fitting quality locks on your doors will not provide you complete safety. You have to remember that any door is only as strong as the frame to which it is attached and the lock is only a minor protection. If a burglar is very determined, any lock can be picked or the door itself removed along with the frame, without too much effort. The same problem exists with windows too. As such, fitting the doors and windows with burglar alarms is essential.
The security alarms can be cameras that detect visitors and intruders and display them in the monitors inside the property. Otherwise, they can be of siren type, which raise an audible alarm when somebody breaks the door locks or intrudes through the windows. Further, the siren type of security alarms can be local alarm type or remote signalling type. Remote signalling alarms are used to alert central monitoring stations like the security service providers or local police stations.
GSM Alarms
GSM alarms help people monitor their properties and secure them over mobile networks. These alarms are useful to keep an eye on properties even when you are away from the town. Some of the GSM alarm models do not require mains power, whilst certain other models might need mains power. These types of alarms are also used to activate or shut down home appliances like air conditioners, lights, fans, etc. These GSM alarms will operate even when the land phone line is out of order or is intentionally cut.
CCTVs
Closed circuit televisions are widely used in large houses and mansions, apartments, shops and malls, apart from other commercial establishments like hotels, hospitals, etc. CCTV monitoring is one of the best options of controlling theft or other problems like vandalism in crowded places. The installation of CCTV systems discourages and deters people from indulging in burglary, shoplifting, eve teasing and other unlawful activities.
CCTV systems are of two types. The first type is one that is monitored on a 24x7 basis by people working in shifts. The second type records all activities in the complex or the property in which it is installed. At regular periods, the recordings are played back to observe the happenings and detect anything unwanted. These types of security alarms are used where employing people for constant monitoring is not possible or costly.
